Event Details
FutureNOW is a new initiative for ACEC/PA geared towards early-career engineers with 15 years or less of experience. This is an opportunity for our next generation of engineering leaders to network with peers of their own experience level and learn from leaders in our industry.
FutureNOW is heading back to the western side of the commonwealth to go on a site tour of the I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project. This is one of the most significant and innovative infrastructure projects currently underway in the Pittsburgh region.
The Commercial Street Bridge carries approximately 100,000 vehicles per day and is being replaced using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques. The new arched steel delta frame structure is being constructed adjacent to the existing bridge and will be laterally slide into place during an extended interstate closure, significantly reducing long-term impacts to traffic. This tour will provide a unique opportunity to see this firsthand and learn more about the design and construction approach.
The tour is free of charge. We do have a limited number of people that can participate, so early registration is encouraged.
We will start promptly at 2:30 P.M. Parking at the project site is limited so carpooling is highly recommended. PPE will be required for all attendees and more information will be sent out prior to the tour.
The tour will be led by representatives from J.B. Fay, the project’s construction contractor, along with HDR Engineering, the Lead Designer, and Michael Baker International, serving as Construction Manager. Together, the team will discuss construction progress, the arched steel delta frame design, and the engineering and coordination challenges associated with replacing a major urban interstate bridge.
We hope you’ll join us for this behind‑the‑scenes look at a landmark project for the region. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Since space is limited, we ask that no more than three associates attend from any given office. Thank you for your understanding. For questions, please contact Sarah Babski at sbabski@acecpa.org.
