Event Details

FutureNOW is a new initiative for ACEC/PA geared towards early-career engineers with 15 years or less of experience. This is an opportunity for our next generation of engineering leaders to network with peers of their own experience level and learn from leaders in our industry.

FutureNOW is heading back to the western side of the commonwealth to go on a site tour of the Beaver River Bridge project. This project will reconstruct and widen two miles of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from milepost 12 to milepost 14 in North Sewickley Township, Homewood Borough, and Big Beaver Borough, Beaver County. The roadway will be widened from four lanes to six, featuring three 12-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction, a 26-foot median, and 12-foot-wide shoulders.

This project also includes the complete replacement of the mainline bridge over the Beaver River (WB-211, Milepost 13.21) The mainline will be shifted to the north to realign with the new bridge structure and to avoid environmental and utility issues to the south. The existing Beaver Valley Interchange (Exit 13) will be reconfigured into a conventional interchange with State Route 18.

We will meet at the ALCM Construction Management office for a project overview and history of the work performed to date along with challenges encountered to this point. After that, we will go on a site tour where depending on weather and if there is enough time:

  • Stop along the river to discuss river work/access
  • Stop at abutment area and walk out on the segments from the abutment. There we will see and discuss the segmental work.
  • Stop at WB-209 area to discuss the interchange work
  • Stop at the top of Thompson Run Road to see the entire project.

We will finish up back at the ALCM office to answer any remaining questions. The tour is free of charge, but we do have a limited number of people that can participate, so early registration is encouraged.

We will not be climbing any stair towers and you do not have to go up on the bridge if you do not want to. You will have to sign a release form which will be sent to you the week prior to the event to return back to ACEC/PA.

We hope you’ll join us for this behind‑the‑scenes look at a landmark project for the region. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Since space is limited, we ask that no more than three associates attend from any given office. Thank you for your understanding. For questions, please contact Sarah Babski at sbabski@acecpa.org.
