Western Chapter March Meeting

The Western Chapter held their final meeting of the year on March 6, 2015, with featured speaker, Mr. Allen Biehler, former PennDOT Secretary of Transportation.  Mr. Biehler’s presentation focused on autonomous and connected vehicles.  As these technologies expand, our policies and operations will continue to adapt to the new vehicles.  Mr. Biehler provided further insight into how these vehicles will affect roadway capacity and safety, which will impact the engineering of future roadways.

Mr. Biehler is a Distinguished Service Professor of Transportation Systems and Policy at Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).  He is also Executive Director of CMU’s T-SET University Transportation Center. He previously served as President of the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials and co-founded the State Smart Transportation Initiative, a program to assist state departments of transportation in pursuing sustainable practices.
