ACEC/PA Position Papers

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) is the voice of over 140 engineering and related companies working in Pennsylvania.  ACEC/PA's member firms employ more than 8,500 people statewide.

As we often say, “what we do is all around you.”  Member firms are involved in designing virtually every construction and renovation project in the state, from bridges and prisons to water purification plants and energy-efficient generation and distribution systems.  We design ventilating and electrical systems for new hospitals, figure out how to build tunnels through mountains without disturbing the local wildlife, and renovate wastewater treatment systems for all sizes of communities.   We also solve environmental and ecological problems like wetlands, brownfields and hazardous waste disposal.  Our work plays a vital role in Pennsylvania’s economy and is a driving force in economic development.  While the idea of Homeland Security may be new to many Pennsylvanians, we have been dealing with these issues for many years.  Remember that the Interstate Highway System was designed for national defense.

As engineers, ACEC/PA members have an interest in Pennsylvania having the best trained and educated population possible.

As business owners, ACEC/PA members have an interest in seeing that population is available to work in Pennsylvania and that Pennsylvania allows us to operate our business in a reasonable and efficient manner.

But most importantly, as Pennsylvanians, ACEC/PA members have an interest in seeing our Commonwealth has all the tools it needs to succeed.

Through these White Papers, we hope to provide our thoughts and guidance for Pennsylvania’s future.  We would be happy to discuss these and other issues with you and your campaign.
